Saturday Night Study Memories

Only a short time had passed (3 months ...2 Sam :11) after the death of Uzzah when King David was leaping and dancing before the Lord with shouring and the sound of the trumpet. The ark of the Lord was brought into the city of David, the Lord was amongst His people.

We learned soooo much tonight. Beth Moore shared with us "If faith is God doing what I tell Him to do, then we are in trouble. We've got to return to whole hearted obedience. Joy is coming." "God is making Soverign decisions..."

A Safe Place Day 4


"Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge." (Ps 62:8, NIV).
Personally, I have found this week's study uncomfortable. I don't really like looking into the areas of my life ...the pits of my life...and how I responded. Yet, I know it's something God must want us to see. Before falling into the pit, we need to realize that we can "Trust in Him at all times".
When things got rough, and people began to desert Christ, He asked the disciples if they wanted to go away, too. Peter's response was beautiful. "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life." John 6:66-69
The question was asked ...if you found that you were distancing yourself from Him at a time of despair or devastation, what would it matter? What would it jeopardize? My response was simply "everything". It would put distance (made from my own choice) between God and me, that distance would NOT be what I wanted. God, my creator, my guide, my protector, my everything...why would I want to put distance there? I need Him!

Angry and Afraid


This lesson brought back some memories I don't like to bring up. The pain is still fresh in my heart and mind as I read through some of the questions in our homework. Scared, yet excited we had no idea what was about to happen. My hip replacement was just the beginning of a long journey of pain. The day after I got home, Evie was ill. Unable to take care of her because of my surgery, I had to leave most of her care up to Dad. He took her to the Dr. and later to the hospital. He rode with her in the ambulance to another hospital; he held her in bed as she cried. He prayed by her bedside and begged me not to come because he worried about my hip. He gave her all he had...and later suffered from a severe case of shingles. The Dr's said it was the worst case they had ever seen.

Through the help of a friend, I came through the anger and disappointment with "My God". I realized He knew my pain; after all He watched his Son die. He knew my pain...He heard my prayers, He knew what was best for us all...

This is still really hard for me to talk about. How about you? Did this lesson bring back a time in your life where you might have been angry or fearful of God?

Getting This Far Day 2 of Week 3

"Who am I, O Sovereign Lord, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far?" 2 Sam 7:18
Today's lesson was awesome. We see David,...with all his heart, ...wants to bless God. Yet God has something else in mind, He wants to bless David through what we call the "Davidic Covenant". After reading Luke 2:4-11, I was so excited and enlightened. The first thing I did was to write "See 2 Sam 7:18-20 in the margin of my Bible. I don't want to forget what I've learned thus far.
"Thus far"...what a phrase...it will never be taken so lightly again. Who brought me "thus far"? Knowing WHOSE I AM was just the beginning, wasn't it? Have we allowed God to bring us to this point? Are we allowing Him to form us into a person that only God, our creator, could have mastered? Are we fervently praying for God to work a "so far" work throughout our family?
Our study lead us to write out several verses to meditate and pray for our families, as well as ourselves. The text left room for your own additional verses. I wrote in Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen Eph 3: 20-21

Transformed; Something For You Day 1 Wk 3

All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. 2 Tim 3: 16-17

For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Heb 4:12

Let us there fore draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and may find grace to help in time of need. Heb 4: 16

Really, I am in awe of the transformation that is taking place within our small group. Each week, we grow not only in number but in knowledge of what God has for us. We are chosen and anointed by God. He gives us his word for teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness. To hear His voice, through His word, through prayer, through Bible Study, through praise and worship...this is my prayer for each of you this week.

Our study begins this week with self-examination of who we are becoming in Christ. To be honest, I am not comfortable letting Him do something for me...I want to do something for Him first...all the time, really. Although, I am really good at telling Him what I want Him to do for me.

Another uncomfortable zone is to be still enough to hear Him. This requires me to come out of MY comfort zone and enter into His comfort.

Here I am, living in a palace of cedar, while the ark of God remains in a tent. 2 Sam 7:2

Responsibility of the Anointing Day 5

"And David did just as God had commanded him..." 1 Chron 14:16

"And from everyone who has been given much, much shall be required; and to whom they entrusted much, of him they will ask all the more." Luke 12:48

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your path straight" Prov 3:5-6

These verses really stood out to me in our lesson today. First of all, David knew his God. David knew the voice of his God and he obeyed his God. He didn't have to wait a day, a week, a month, to figure out if it was something God was telling him, his flesh was telling him, or the enemy was telling him. David knew his God so well, he knew his voice and immediately acted upon the direction God was giving him.

David, an anointed man of God, was careful to make sure his daily plan was one that was directed by God. Some days the plans were huge; confronting the giant was a huge one in my opinion. Then again, some days were simple. Yet, David knew whose he was and moved in a manner that was pleasing to God; waiting on his direction.

Let's make this personal. Do I (you) know His voice? Do I (you) seek His plan? Do I (you) realize that to whom much is given, much is required? Realize that David didn't rise up and say,"Lord, this is what I'm going to do for you today." Instead, he waited for and sought direction from God. When he heard the direction (even if it sounded odd), David acted upon it. Again, He knew WHOSE he was.

Benefits of the Anointing Day 4


Wow! Simply, Wow! Today's lesson was really great. We find David seeking God's counsel before he acted. Living in the microwave (need it now) and Burger King (have it your way) society, we don't often stop to pray before we leap.

But as for me, I will watch expectantly for the Lord, I will wait for the God of my salvation. My God will hear me. Micah 7:7

I'll give you words and wisdom that will reduce all accusers to stammers and stutters. Luke 21:15

Do we know the voice of God when we hear it? Do we consult Him or our friends, first. Who's voice do we long to hear?

In the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to a secluded place, and was praying there. Mark 1:35

Before starting His day, Jesus sought to spend time with His Father. As we read on, we find that Jesus left this prayer time focused on the mission rather than on the "to-do list" for the day. Obviously, Jesus knew the voice of His Father. During our prayer time, do we listen, do we anticipate expectantly to hear from Him? God speaks to us; do you hear Him? or have you worked Him right out of your schedule?

And as for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him. 1 John 2:27

Anointed/Disappointed Wk 2 Day 3

Saul said to David, "You cannot go and fight the Philistine [Goliath]; you are only a boy and he has been a warrior since his youth." David said to Saul, "Your servant used to look after the sheep for his father and whenever a lion or bear came and took a sheep from the flock, I used to follow it up, lay into it and snatch the sheep out of its jaws. If it would turn on me, I would seize it by the beard, and batter it to death."1 Samuel 17: 33-35




David knew he was to be the anointed King of Israel, yet he was still a working as a shepard boy. While working, he wasn't sitting around complaining about not taking command yet, he wasn't sitting around day-dreaming about what it was going to be like and planning how he was to carry out the mission. No, he was working as a successful shepard boy.


Wherever we are today, God has equipped us for the moment. Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. Luke 16:10 I like how Priscilla put it; telling us we need to keep in mind that God may simply want to "adjust your life and character in smaller assignment to prepare us for the larger ones." David took his commitment to God seriously. He was the best shepard he could be; it prepared him for what was yet to come. David was asked to be the delivery boy, to take supplies to his brothers on the battle field. His experience as a shepard, fighting off lions and bears, prepared him to face Goliath. I have to admit, reading this brought me to a point of repentance. I have missed the point when I complain about where I am, I could have been preparing and learning but chose to whine instead. (Uggghhhhhh)


As we read in today's lesson, David was no less anointed as a shepard boy than he was as acting King. That was a huge "ahh-haa" for me. I need to rely on God, His Spirit, to empower me to handle what I have to do today and ask him to help me clearly see the vision of His plan.
